With a focus on sustainability, they are also at the forefront of recycling PGM autocatalysts and mine tailings retreatment. Recently, they have expanded into battery metals mining, reinforcing their commitment to the circular economy through recycling and reprocessing initiatives.
Enhanced security and accountability
Managing access to high-risk areas is a critical concern for Sibanye-Stillwater, particularly in their vast and complex mining operations. To address this, they decided to invest in Creone’s intelligent key management system, the KeyWin6 cloud service, along with two KeyBox 9500SC cabinets.
“We needed a solution to manage and control high-risk keys and to ensure accountability for who uses these keys in restricted areas,” says Nicolene, a key decision-maker in the procurement process. Prior to adopting the Creone system, the company used a manual key box, which often led to challenges in tracking and managing key usage.
“Before, it was difficult to know who had taken or lost a key. There have been huge improvements in accountability since switching to an automated system. We no longer have to guess who took a key, and the event log provide full traceability,” Nicolene adds.
Streamlined key access with modern technology
The KeyWin6 cloud service, combined with the KeyBox 9500SC key cabinets, offers Sibanye-Stillwater enhanced control over their key management. With over two years of use, they have seen significant improvements in safety, productivity, and operational efficiency.
“Increased safety in key access, reduced downtime, and less human interaction have been some of the major benefits,” explains Banie. The ability to automate key management has allowed the company to better handle the growing number of keys in their operations, while also decreasing internal costs.
Modular expansion and easy integration
Sibanye-Stillwater initially invested in Creone’s key management system two years ago and recently purchased a second KeyBox 9500SC cabinet to expand their capabilities.
“The modular expansion design and plug-and-play features were key reasons for choosing Creone. It’s easy to add licenses and integrate additional cabinets,” Banie notes.
One of the most valuable features is the extensive event log and the ability to lock keys in specific positions, ensuring only authorized personnel can access them. The locked key position feature, along with the ability to return keys to random positions in the cabinet, provides added security and flexibility.
Simplicity drives the decision
Nicolene and Banie were personally involved in the procurement of the key management system and highlight that functionality and ease of use were the main factors in choosing Creone over other solutions. The system is intuitive and straightforward, making it easy for the team to use and manage.
